Autumn at the Arboretum

October 20, 2022 Yorkshire Arboretum

Spend some quality time outdoors in the arboretum this autumn. Enjoy the peace and quiet of the garden of trees at your leisure, experience the wonderful autumn colours, join a free-guided tour (available until the end of October) and take part in one of the many activities on offer.

Take a moment to relax at the Arboretum Café – with seasonal soup, cake and a great selection of hot food and drinks on the menu, and a fabulous outlook. What’s not to love?

Grow Your Own Oak

We’re excited to be hosting a series of ‘Grow Your Own Oak’ workshops this autumn with the aim of encouraging young people to get involved in tree planting from an early age. The first two workshops are being held on Sunday 30 October followed by a further two sessions on Sunday 6 November.

These workshops promise to be a fun activity for children and families especially, but anyone can take part. Participants are invited to join the team at The Yorkshire Arboretum for an autumn walk through the garden to gather acorns. You’ll learn how to select the best acorns for planting and how to germinate and care for your sapling as it grows.

Grow Your Own Oak workshops are free to attend, but general admission to the arboretum applies.

Tree Health Centre Courses

If you would like to learn more about trees - whether it’s how to identify, plant, grow or manage them, our Tree Health Centre courses are suitable for anyone with an interest in trees.

Principles of Pruning on Thursday 3 November is a hands-on practical demonstration and exercise working with trees and shrubs in the arboretum. Spend a day learning about conifers at an Introduction to Tree Identification: Conifers course on Thursday 10 November. Or learn some essential tips about planting garden trees for success by signing up to Best Start to Rural Planting on Thursday 17 November.

View the complete Tree Health Centre course calendar here.
