Free Guided Tour

Every Thursday from 10th April to 30th October our friendly, expert guide will introduce you to the collection, explain the arboretum's history and show you the best of our seasonal treasures.

There is no charge for the tour. Standard admission applies.

Tours start from the Visitor Centre and last 1- 2 hours (depending on the season, the weather, what the group would like to see, how much we chat and how slowly we walk!). No need to book - just drop in and join in.

Easter Bunny Tail Trail

Easter Bunny Tail Trail - Yorkshire ArboretumThe Easter bunny and his friends have lost their tails! Can you help find them? Find all the bunny tails hidden amongst the trees and plants and complete the puzzle, then claim your sticker prize!

There is no charge for the Easter Bunny Tail Trail activity and no need to book. Standard admission applies. Don't forget children under 12 are FREE every day.

Woodturning Taster

Woodturning - Yorkshire ArboretumTry your hand at the craft of woodturning under the one to one guidance of expert David Lowe (www.davidlowewoodturner.co.uk). Sessions last an hour and all tools and materials are provided and you can take home the piece you create.

Tree Climbing Experience

Tree climbing - Yorkshire ArboretumExperienced instructors from Canopy Access (www.canopyaccess.co.uk) will teach you to climb high into the canopy of one of our huge oaks. Using the ultra-safe rope access techniques used by wildlife film makers and forest scientists all over the world, visit this seldom-seen world to get a bird's eye view of the Yorkshire Arboretum. No prior climbing experience necessary. All you need is a moderate degree of physical fitness, some stout footwear and a head for heights!

Hawk Walk

Hawk walk - Yorkshire ArboretumExperience the magic and thrill of flying birds of prey. Learn how to handle the hawks correctly from the experts at www.historicalfalconry.com then enjoy a walk around the arboretum, with the hawk following on in the trees and flying to your gloved fist. You'll also meet two of our owls who will fly to you from perches. A great opportunity to get up close to some amazing predators. Learn about these fascinating birds, their behaviour, and the work of a falconer. All equipment is provided.

Horticultural Lecture Series: Paul Cook - From China via Ness: the plant introductions of George Forrest and AK Bulley

Horticultural lecture - Yorkshire ArboretumPaul is Curator of RHS Harlow Carr, but will speak about the collaboration of AK Bulley, of Bees Seeds at Ness in the Wirral, and the plant hunter George Forrest, collecting in China. Paul was previously Curator of Ness Botanical Garden, where many original Forrest introductions are still grown.

Jonathan Pomroy Exhibition

Jonathan Pomroy Yorkshire ArboretumJonathan works in watercolour and oil from field sketches made in all winds and weathers. An Ampleforth based artist (www.jonathanpomroy.co.uk), he is inspired by the landscape and wildlife of North Yorkshire and beyond.

This exhibition shows some of his recent paintings including studies made at the Yorkshire Arboretum this spring. Free entry.

Bushcraft Experience

Bushcraft - Yorkshire ArboretumLed by the Yorkshire Bushcraft team (www.yorkshirebushcraft.co.uk) this session will include building a shelter from natural materials, campfire cookery and traditional fire making and tending skills . Great fun for families! Minimum age 5 years. All under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
